Sofie Cochran

I believe that the most important aspect of therapy is feeling safe, empowered, and supported. I focus on fostering a space that allows for the safe exploration of trauma, anxiety, and depression. I also work with individuals and children experiencing ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, relationship problems, and other diverse concerns.

I mostly work from a Person-Centered lens, but I draw on a range of techniques (including Child-Centered Play Therapy, somatic exercises, Relational Therapy, and Attachment Theory) to best meet the needs of the individual. Play therapy allows children to utilize play, their natural language, to explore feelings, fears, and behaviors. Play therapy remains a safe space for children to receive empathy, acceptance, and understanding. When working with children, I find it is also important to provide parent coaching. Although parents are seen as the experts in their child’s life, parent coaching creates a collaborative space for the therapist and parents to best meet the child’s unique needs.

When we, as humans, feel supported, seen, and understood, we are better equipped with tools to regulate emotions, continue to build confidence, and persevere through difficult life experiences. My goal is to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment that serves as a bridge to healing, self-understanding, and meaningful change.

Before my time at ANCHOR Counseling, I worked closely with school psychologists, school counselors, and social-emotional learning specialists to best assist the emotional and educational needs of children. I am now completing my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Regis University, and have also completed a play therapy internship at a local elementary school. Being born and raised in Colorado has provided me with a front row seat to the distinct mental health needs of Colorado children, adolescents, and adults. Yet, I remain curious and explorative of each individual’s story and experiences. I am so excited to continue to provide supportive, warm, and attuned mental health services at ANCHOR Counseling.

Outside of therapy, you can find me hiking, traveling, attending Colorado sports games, and spending time with friends, family, and my dog, Cow.
